About Save Western NY

Save Western NY is a voluntary association of residents and property owners in the Town of Wethersfield. The group was formed in response to concerns about a proposal by Noble Environmental Power, LLC to install 67-70 wind turbines nearly 400 feet tall, lighted 24 hours a day, in the township.

While initially in favor of windpower, after much research we now believe that such a project is likely to have a profound adverse impact on the environment and economic health of our town and have a detrimental effect on the residents' right to enjoy their homes and properties. We believe that every resident should be informed in advance about all aspects of the project and, to date, this isn't happening. In our opinion, the negatives of the project are being played down by the developer and questions concerning setbacks and noise issues are not being addressed in a satisfactory way.

While wind energy may have it's place, we don't believe that place is in residential areas and feel that more study needs to be done about the problems involved with wind "farms" before the state is subjected to hundreds of them. The millions in tax dollars and electric subsidies that are being spent on these projects would be better spent on conservation measures until wind technology advances further.
